Overview

The Albumin test on body fluid samples is utilized to aid in determining the root cause of ascites and in distinguishing between exudative and transudative pleural effusions. The method used is Colorimetric. The test is also known as Serum ascites albumin gradient (SAAG). The preferred specimen sources include peritoneal fluid, pleural fluid, and drain fluid, with specific collection instructions emphasizing the need to spin the sample in a centrifuge to remove cellular components and transfer it into a plastic vial, while also ensuring clear labeling of the specimen's origin and source location.
